This is how you clean your rice cooker properly

Rice cookers are your best friends in the kitchen. You can add rice to any meal without any problem! But unfortunately, rice cookers also get pretty dirty. And if you notice that your rice cooker isn’t functioning properly, it might be time to give your rice cooker a good cleaning.

Preparation

So, how often should you actually clean this kitchen appliance? It is most hygienic to clean it every time you use it. Because if you take the time to clean your rice cooker after every use, you will save yourself a lot of time and manual work in the long run. But if you haven’t cleaned your rice cooker after every use, there are ways to make it look like new again. First you need to prepare. Consult your rice cooker’s instructions to find out which cleaning products to use or not to use. Make sure the cooker is unplugged and cooled down.

1. Take it apart

To make sure you clean your rice cooker completely, it is best to clean each part separately. Remove the inner pan and place it in the sink. Fill that sink with some hot water and add some dish soap. Let that sit for about twenty minutes, until all the grains of rice come off the sides.

2. Clean it up

Use a non-abrasive sponge to clean the inside of the jar. And use that same sponge and soap to clean the paddle and steamer basket. If some stubborn granules stick to the sides of the jar, use a plastic spatula to scrape them off. Just don’t use metal spatulas or utensils. When all the rice grains are gone, you can dry the pot with a dry cloth.

3. The lid

First check whether the lid of your rice cooker can be removed. If so, you can detach it and clean it with the same sponge and soapy water as before. When you’re done, you can use a microfiber cloth to wipe and dry the lid.

4. Assemble

Reassemble (after it is completely dry and clean) and wipe down the outside of the rice cooker. You can easily do this with some water and white vinegar. Make sure that no water gets into the electrical parts of the rice cooker. You don’t want to clean it only to find out it doesn’t work anymore!

If you want to avoid the hassle of cleaning your rice cooker, you should look into the best ways to cook rice. Cooking rice properly will make it much easier to clean your cooker after every use.
